The region offers scenic cycling routes through vineyards, olive groves, and historical sites. Known for its mild climate and delicious wines, Alentejo provides an ideal blend of physical challenge and cultural immersion for cyclists.
We start from Castelo de Vide, a charming medieval town. We then ride to the medieval fort in Elvas and the ancient town of Évora, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. The rides are generally through scenic landscapes featuring olive plantations and cork trees. At Reguengos and Monsaraz, it is time to slow down and Indulge in wine tastings at traditional wineries (we are at the heart of Alentejo’s wine country!). The tour culminates in the coastal town of Vila Nova de Milfontes, offering a perfect blend of physical challenge, cultural immersion, and natural beauty.

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer from Lisbon Airport/Lisbon Town
Castelo de Vide is a captivating medieval town in Alentejo, known for its narrow cobblestone streets, historic castle, and mountainous landscapes. Its well-preserved architecture and rich cultural heritage make it an ideal starting point for our cycling adventure.
Welcome to Portugal! We will pick you up from Lisbon Airport or your hotel in Lisbon and transfer you to Castelo de Vide. This charming medieval town, rich in history and scenic beauty, marks the starting point of our Portugal bike tour.

On the first day of our Portugal bike tour, you have two ride options, both scenic loops through the Alentejo countryside.
The terrain is mountainous and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. After your ride, take the opportunity to explore the charming town of Castelo de Vide on foot.

The first hour winds through scenic narrow country roads, crossing into Spain for a stretch of flat terrain. After 30 km in Spain, we re-enter Portugal, pausing for lunch at the historic Campo Major. The route continues through picturesque olive groves on our way to Elvas, our destination for the day.
Elvas, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is famed for its monumental fortifications and stunning aqueduct. With a rich military history and picturesque medieval streets, it offers a captivating glimpse into Portugal’s past.

Along the way, we take a break for a Portuguese espresso at a quaint local café, savoring the essence of local life. Continuing our journey, we ascend to Monsaraz Fort, a medieval stronghold perched majestically atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding plains and Alqueva Lake.
On our return to the hotel, we make a brief but enriching stop in Sao Pedro do Corval. This village is renowned for its long-standing tradition of pottery craftsmanship, where local artisans skillfully create distinctive Portuguese ceramics, reflecting the region’s cultural heritage and artistic flair. Repairs & Safety
Basic spares and tools are carried by the guide and on the support vehicle, though we cannot guarantee having spares for every conceivable problem. Carrying a basic tool kit, a spare tube and a pump while riding is recommended.
Wearing a helmet is required on all our biking adventures and is non negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet you will not be allowed to cycle. Your tour leader is trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but to a large degree you must be responsible for your own safety while riding.

Not quite. Riders should be comfortable with 60-80 km rides. If you’re not there yet, we’re happy to provide training tips to help you get ready.
There aren’t any big climbs, but the terrain is undulating with a few short, rolling climbs almost every day.
The roads are very good. Perfect for road bikes.
Certainly! You can absolutely ride at your own pace. Our groups often naturally split into smaller groups based on pace. Just remember, riding too fast means potentially missing out on the breathtaking scenery and cultural highlights along the route. This tour isn’t a race — it’s about enjoying the journey together.
The tour ends in Vila Nova de Milfontes. We will arrange transportation back to Lisbon from there.
